In March of 2022, Fitz flew out to Southern California to help transport a customer’s koi and attend the ZNA Koi Show. A customer that we have supplied koi to has a beautiful infinity koi pond in his backyard that overlooks Los Angeles. His pond is filled with gorgeous champion koi and he decided to enter one of his prized koi in the ZNA Koi Show that was held in Gardena, California.
Our customer entered a beautiful Maruhiro Showa into the show. He bought this koi from FFP during our Fall Japan Harvest Trip. The fish was bought as a Sansai and was entered into the show as a Yansai. Although the fish didn’t win any awards, we are hopeful that someday it might! With some more food and a few more years, this koi has the potential to place and get an award. It was really great to see how this koi has flourished since it was brought here from Japan. We love maintaining these relationships with our customers and enjoying the koi hobby together.
The fish that took the show and won was a grand champion Showa from Dainichi. The interesting thing about this fish is that the hobbyist raised it from a Tosai and it is now 8 years old. It is amazing to see the amount of growth that can take place with a koi when it is well cared for. That is one of the best parts about coming out to a koi show like this. After being in this industry for over 10 years, it is awesome to see how much the hobby is growing in America. The amount of vendors at the shows who set up mini retail stores with fish and pond products is constantly increasing. There is nothing better than being surrounded by people who love koi as much as we do at Fitz’s Fish Ponds.
Overall, it was a great time to be amongst other koi hobbyists who are all passionate about raising fish and keeping them healthy. Seeing the growth of the koi over time is also something as hobbyists we enjoy. Finally, building and maintaining relationships with our customers and helping them with whatever direction the hobby takes them is something we are proud to do at Fitz’s Fish Ponds.
